Powered by a 200 MHz Intel PXA262 processor, the Mio 8870 sports a 2.2", 18-bit transflective TFT display capable of displaying up to 262,144 colours at the standard Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. 32 MB of NAND Flash and 32 MB of RAM make up the internal memory of the phone, whilst expansion takes place courtesy of an SD/MMC Card expansion slot.
The expansion slot also supports SDIO, rendering the Mio 8870 one of only a handful of products currently available which could potentially support accessories such as GPS receivers, Wi-Fi cards and more. Uncommon for smartphones, however, Bluetooth is not supported, although the 8870 offers Infrared and serial/USB support for connectivity.
An integrated 0.3 MP CMOS camera complete with vanity mirror records video and also shoots still pictures at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, whilst support for media playback is managed by Pocket Windows Media Player 9, offering audio output through the integrated loudspeaker or the 2.5 mm handsfree kit jack.
According to Mio Technology, the Mio 8870 will offer up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 100 hours of standby time courtesy of its 1050 mAh Lithium Ion battery, and will sell for an estimated retail price of 499 EUR.
